eMATH February 2023 Newsletter

Image of cute groundhog predicting lots more emath resources.

Here in New York, we roll into the second semester now that February is here. And, of course, many schools are far past the mid-point now. Unlike the groundhog, we are predicting an early spring where we have new courses and new resources. Let’s first get into our new additions this month.

NEW MATERIALS FOR TEACHERS

Here are the new teacher tools to use in the classroom for each of our courses:

N-Gen Math 6:

  • Unit 8 (Percent) – Form B Unit Assessment
  • Unit 8 (Percent) – Practice with Percent Word Problems: This is a great worksheet to let your 6th graders work on identifying the part, the percentage, and the whole in word problems.
  • Unit 9 (Area) – Area Practice Problem Set: In this worksheet, students practice finding the areas of rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids. Work includes use of the coordinate plane.

N-Gen Math 7:

  • Unit 8cc (Probability – Common Core Aligned) – Form B Unit Assessment
  • Unit 8cc (Probability – Common Core Aligned) – Practice with Compound Probability: In this worksheet, students get a chance to work with finding the probability of compound events using organized lists, sample trees, and tables.

N-Gen Math 8:

  • Unit 6cc (Functions – Common Core Aligned) – Form B Unit Assessment
  • Unit 7 (Exponents and Roots) – Form B Unit Assessment
  • Unit 8 (Pythagorean Theorem) – Practice with the Pythagorean Theorem and Its Converse: This is a nice worksheet to give students practice in solving for the missing side of a right triangle and in identifying sets of triples that could be the sides of a right triangle.

N-Gen Math Algebra I:

  • Unit 8 (Quadratic Functions) – Form A Unit Assessment
  • Unit 8 (Quadratic Functions) – Exit Tickets
  • Unit 8 (Quadratic Functions) – Power Functions Versus Exponential Functions – Exploration: This is an activity where students explore how an exponential function will always outgrow a power function, no matter how great is exponent.

Common Core Geometry:

  • Unit 7 (Tools of Coordinate Geometry) – Form D Mid-Unit Quiz
  • Unit 7 (Tools of Coordinate Geometry) – Practice with Similarity Transformations: In this practice set, students work to identify/describe the transformations that would be needed to map one figure onto another when the two figures are similar. Work is done both in the Euclidean and coordinate planes.

Common Core Algebra II:

  • Unit 9 (Complex Numbers) – Practice Solving Quadratics with Complex Roots: This worksheet gives students opportunities to solve quadratic equations both by inspection and using the quadratic formula that have non-real solutions.
  • Unit 10 (Polynomial and Rational Functions) – Form D Mid-Unit Quiz
