eMATH January 2023 Newsletter

Bubble with snowflakes frozen on it.

Happy New Year to all of the students, teachers, and parents out there! With a new year comes new possibilities and new resolutions. Here at eMATHinstruction, our resolution is what it’s always been: to create new, ever more dynamic materials that help students learn math better and help make teaching math easier. To that end, we have for you a number of new teacher tools (what we like to call “add-ons”) this month for each of our courses…

NEWLY ADDED TOOLS FOR TEACHERS

N-Gen Math 6:

  • Unit 7 (Ratios and Rates) – Form B Unit Assessment
  • Unit 7 (Ratios and Rates) – Practice with Ratios. This practice sheet is full of problems where students work with equivalent ratios and the various tools that we use to solve ratio problems, such as tables and double number lines.

N-Gen Math 7:

  • Unit 7cc (Statistics – Common Core Aligned) – Form B Unit Assessment
  • Unit 8 (Probability) – Form B Unit Assessment
  • Unit 8 (Probability) – Compound Probability Practice. This practice sheet has a variety of problems that allow students to gain valuable practice with compound probability problems. Students use organized lists and tree diagrams to list outcomes in the sample space and then answer probability questions.

N-Gen Math 8:

  • Unit 6 (Functions) – Form B Unit Assessment
  • Unit 6cc (Functions – Common Core Aligned) – Practice with Average Rate of Change. In this practice set of problems, students get practice calculating the average rate of change of a function. Functions are represented using equations, tables, and graphs. Emphasis is placed on applied problems and proper use of units.

N-Gen Math Algebra I:

  • Unit 7 (Polynomials) – Form A Unit Assessment
  • Unit 7 (Polynomials) – Exit Tickets
  • Unit 7 (Polynomials) – Optimizing the Volume of an Open Box. In this extended modeling problem, students develop functions to model the volume of an open box with a square bottom if the material for the box is cut from a square sheet.

Common Core Geometry:

  • Unit 6 (Quadrilaterals) – Form D Mid-Unit Quiz
  • Unit 6 (Quadrilaterals) – Sufficient Conditions Practice. In this resource, students get valuable practice in working with the conditions necessary to prove that a particular quadrilateral is a trapezoid, a parallelogram, a rhombus, a rectangle, or a square.

Common Core Algebra II:

  • Unit 8 (Radicals and the Quadratic Formula) – Form D Mid-Unit Quiz
  • Unit 8 (Radicals and the Quadratic Formula) – Quadratic Formula Practice. In this set of problems, students get routine practice working with the quadratic formula. Problems are both abstract and applied and ask students to express their answers both as decimals and in simplest radical form.
  • Unit 9 (Complex Numbers) – Form D Mid-Unit Quiz

AND THE WINNERS ARE…

CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of our recent contest! Visit our blog to go behind-the-scenes of the contest, see how the winners solved the problem (What is the value of the sum:  1+3+5+7+…+99+101?), and learn why they dig eMATHinstruction!

MAKE THOSE WORKBOOKS LAST LONGER!

Now that we’re deep into the ’22-’23 school year, are your eMATHinstruction Workbooks getting a little worse for wear? Being tossed around in backpacks, constantly opened and closed, repeatedly written and erased in — that’s a lot of wear & tear! NOT TO WORRY: here’s an easy fix (visuals above)…

1. Cut the coils with shears.
2. Place the workbook pages (which are already hole-punched) in a 3-ring binder.
3. And pop the cover in the front sleeve!

Voila – good as new!

TEACHERS & ADMINS, DID YOU TAKE OUR SURVEY?
